Mirai Nikki 20
« on: March 25, 2012, 02:18:55 PM »
Here we go with another episode of Mirai Nikki.
Minene and Nishijima are way too adorable.
How many of you think they'll end up like Nishijima?  I think I will...

For a more serious question.
Those of you who are downloading the Xvid version, please tell us why you prefer it over the h264 version.
It's been years since h264-mkv was first introduced, and many people who initially had trouble playing it are now watching them fine, including myself.
So please educate us why some of you still prefer the Xvid.
Thank you for your cooperation in the market (?) study.

Thanks.

Tight budget and bad internet (80 kbps) is the best I can afford at the moment.

I got some catching up to do. Thanks a lot for the quality release.

I'm not downloading the Xvids so I can't help you there but I hope you get many helpful comments on the subject.

MKV > Xvid but I'am downloading Xvid version, why?
1. Smaller size, and what comes after this, 25-episodes are possible to store on old-good DVDs which can't be said about MKVs (~13 episodes on DVD's)
2. On my 21" monitor I don't see much differences in quality

Thank you.

Why XviD? Well, it's smaller for a start. Second, until I'll finally buy a new PC to replace my current junk (or I'll be able to watch animes at work, whatever happens first ), I'll be forced to use XviD. So pleeeeease don't stop making XviDs!  :))

Lol, I am one of the lucky ones that has 5MBytes connection, but this is not available in my whole country. I know someone that still uses dial-up! So yeah, there are a few not-so-lucky persons out there.

I usually get the xvid releases because for one, they're smaller and at home it takes a lot less time.

Also I like to use Windows media player for xvid, and I'm not sure if the mkv files play properly in Windows media player, or at all even with the CCCP.

xvid is also much easier to reencode for specialized situations like my own PSP - with the Hi10P fad going on, every time I've tried to reencode those for my PSP it turns out looking like absolute crap and horribly blocky.

If the alternative is Hi10p, I will sometimes download XVid, but more and more, I'm starting to just do my own re-encodes for things that don't like Hi10p.

I generally watch this show on hardware that doesn't have a problem, but I may do my own encodes when BDMVs become available, and adjust your subs to it.

Anyway, thanks for the release!
In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.

I used xvid pretty much for the same reasons stated above. But as the next two months go by I will have newer hardware, so this won't be a problem anymore. I can just store to external hdd any of the larger mkv files, and burn the stuff I really as xvid/avi to disc.

I mainly DL Xvid because it has a smaller filesize. At the moment, both my hard drive and my external are full and I don't really want to spend a lot on another external right now. I also DL them because I have a small screen (netbook) due to having essentially one eye to watch anime with. With 720p resolution or larger, it basically looks the same as an Xvid so there's not much point getting those.

My actual preferred filetype is 480p mkvs because of all the benefits of the mkv container with a decent filesize to boot. If you stop doing Xvid, I'll probably just download the 720p size if that's all there is. I'm just grateful you guys pick up shows I like.

Thanks for episode 20, by the way. I love this show.

Clarification about the question: Are you asking about SD avi vs. SD mkv, or about SD vs. HD. Because if it is about SD vs. HD, my computer can't handle 10bit (and even 8bit HD, HD keeps lagging even with CCCP) and smaller filesize (I don't prefer storing 300+ MB episodes, I only have 144 GB of free space). If it is SD avi vs. SD mkv, I don't care either way.

I download the Xvids because my computer can't handle playing the higher resolution files without stalling every minute or so.  Low-res MKVs work, but 720p is iffy and anything higher is just impossible, so I stick with what works more reliably.
